NOTE: Ann Ellis was bapt on 26 Jan 1777 at Llandyssil, dau of George and Ann Ellis. Ann married John Jones on 22 April 1804 at Llandyssil, Parish Church. John was of The Pentrey, Llandyssil. Her husband was a Joint Executor of Ann's father's Will, (George Ellis) in 1824.

NOTE: 1688 John Ellis was a Guardian of Llanwddellan Parish on BTS copy of Registers.

MARRIAGE: John Ellis married Elizabeth Buckley.

WILL: of John Ellis 15 SEP 1697, probated 11 MAY 1698. In 1697 they had a grandson, George Ellis and grand daughter Anne Ellis. Elizabeth was daughter of William and Anne Buckley. The Will of William Buckley probated 16 MAY 1671, mentions his youngest daughter Elizabeth, wife of John Ellis. In 1688 John Ellis was a Guardian of Llanwddellan Parish on BTS copy of Registers. John Ellis made a Will on 15 SEP 1697, probated 11 MAY 1698 Llanwyddellan. Elizabeth was buried on 21 July 1712 at Llanwddelan.The Will mentions wife Elizabeth Ellis, Children- Ann Ellis, wife of David Gwyn, Elizabeth Ellis, wife of Owen Owens, George Ellis, sonTrustee Elthel Foulkes, son in law David Gwyn, and Owen Owens,
Son George Ellis, dau in law Rebecca Ellis, sister Margery Williams, grandson George Ellis, Winifred Gardner, John and Jane Williams (born pre 1697), minor children of Richard Williams, shoemaker of Llanwnog.

George Ellis boarder Wdr age 64 Blacksmith unemployed born Wolverampton, Staffs.

NOTE: George Ellis was a blacksmith all his life at Welshpool and Newtown in Montgomeryshire and Bilston in Staffordshire, possibly in Yorkshire too where he lived with his daughters - Elizabeth Hill, Margaret Holden. In 1884 he came to New South Wales, Australia to live with Margaret and Job Holden and died there on 28 July 1889 aged 75 years, buried at Rookwood Cemetery. He had diabetes for 3 years and died at "Erato" 20 Seale St, Leichhardt. Later four of his infant grandchildren were buried with him.

Wales was our country of Study in 1989. It gave me great pleasure because I am nearly half Welsh by ancestry. In 1993 I had the opportunity to visit Wales for the third time and this time to see the homes and former home sites of my ancestors.

BAPTISM: Anne Owen was baptised at St Beunos, Berriew on 10 February, 1816, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Owen, labourer of Trustowelin near Berriew in Montgomeryshire.

NOTE: Mary Ellis was bapt on 20 APR 1810 at Llanllwchaiarn, near, Newtown.

MARRIAGE: Mary married John Rees on 15 October 1837 at Newtown by Banns. Mary was 27, spinster, dressmaker of Newtown and her father John Ellis was a spinner. John Rees was 26, bachelor, lapidiary, father was Vaughan Rees, printer. Witnesses John Ellis and Sarah Horton. (NLW Film Vol 19 # 13, p 7).

NOTE: Thomas Ellis, son of Evan Woosnam? = Mary Morgan, dau of Evan Morgan in 1846 at Newtown #191 in Hayes Computerised Marriages - this may or may not be the one above. It seems odd that a Thomas Ellis has a father Evan Woosnam? Maybe the Marriage Register was wongly read. LB).

Estella Louisa Ellis

NOTE: Louisa Warr and Joseph Maddocks were witnesses to wedding of her sister, Margaret Eliza and Job Holden in October 1874 in St James, Wednesbury.

MARRIAGE: Estella Louisa Warr, widow, married Joseph Maddocks on 25 March 1875 at the Dudley Parish Church. Actual record is 21 March.


Frederick Ellis

BIRTH: Frederick Ellis born c 1843 at Newtown, son of George and Ann Ellis. He was living in Bradley-Bilston in 1851 aged 8 years with his parents and sisters.

!MARRIAGE: Frederick Ellis married Mary Dowswell on 9 April 1865 at the Parish Church, Sedgley, Staffordshire by Banns. Frederick was aged 21 years, boiler maker, of Swan Village, father George Ellis, blacksmith. Mary was aged 20 years, spinster of Swan Village, father George Dowswell, tailor. Witnesses were Seth Pugh and James Whitehouse. All signed their names except James. No more known. Where did they go?
